TOUR 300 YEARS BACH IN LEIPZIG

We dedicate this tour to the 300th anniversary of Johann Sebastian Bach´s position as Thomaskantor in Leipzig. Try out Bach by Bike in 2 stages: we start in Köthen, where Bach was employed at the court of Prince Leopold. We then cycle along the route of the Bach family´s moving to the new position in Leipzig in the year 1723. We spend one day in Halle, explore what Bach was experiencing there and visit the museum of Bach´s famous contemporary George Frederic Handel. This journey ends with a concert of the Bach by Bike Ensemble in the beautiful inner courtyard of Bach-Archive Leipzig.

ITINERARY
DAY 1, INDIVIDUAL ARRIVAL AND KÖTHEN
We meet at 3 pm at the hotel in Köthen. After discovering Bach’s traces during a tour of the city, we will visit the Bach exhibition at City Palace. In the evening we will have a special baroque dinner like in Bach`s time where you can get in the baroque mood for the tour.
DAY 2, KÖTHEN – HALLE A.D. SAALE, 35 KM
In the morning we start cycling to Halle. This stage includes a swimming stop at a lake if the weather is nice. Early afternoon we reach the city center of Halle. Here, we visit the Museum of the eldest Bach son, Wilhelm Friedemann-Bach-House, and the Handel-House, Handel being one famous Bach contemporary. Kantor Irènèe Peyrot will introduce us to the organs of Market Church Halle in the evening.
DAY 3, HALLE A.D. SAALE – LEIPZIG, 45 KM
We continue to the second stage of the trip to Leipzig. If the weather allows, we stop off at a lake in the meadows of the river Elster. Along the dikes of the White Elster and passing through the Clara-Zetkin-Park, we will be cycling to the center of Leipzig. During a city tour we discover the city’s many Bach sites of his life as Thomaskantor.
DAY 4, LEIPZIG AND DEPARTURE
Today you can visit the service at St. Thomas Church or St. Nikolai Church. You will then visit the Bach-Museum. At 3 pm, we celebrate the 300th anniversary with a concert of the Bach by Bike Ensemble at the inner courtyard of the Bach-Archive. Look forward to music by Bach and his competitor for the position as Thomaskantor, Georg Philipp Telemann. The concert will end around 4.30 pm. Everyone will then embark on their individual journey home. Alternatively, you can book an additional night in the hotel.

GROUP SIZE AND MINIMUM NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS:
The minimum number of participants for our tours is 15. If the minimum number is not reached, we reserve the right to withdraw from the tour contract. The corresponding declaration must be sent to you at least 29 days before the scheduled beginning of the tour.
The average group size is approximately 15 to 25 people.
